Solar panels and low-carbon heating installed on homes

Monitoring & maintenance

What happens after the scaffold comes down.

A measure only saves what it saves in use. We stay with the stock after handover to service the systems, check performance against the design and deal with anything the resident reports.

What we cover

Heat pump servicing
Annual service and refrigerant checks, controls re-checked and flow temperatures reset where a household has been running the system differently to the commissioning settings.
Solar PV and battery
Generation checked against the expected yield, inverter faults identified from the monitoring rather than from a resident noticing the bill.
Ventilation
Filters, flow rates and boost function checked, because a dMEV that has been switched off is the most common reason mould returns.
Warranty and defects
Warranty claims handled on the resident's behalf with the manufacturer, and installation defects put right by the team that carried out the work.
Performance reporting
In-use consumption compared with the design assumptions, reported by archetype so the next phase of the programme is specified from real data.

Helping households use what has been installed

Low-carbon heating behaves differently to a gas boiler. Run it like a boiler — on for an hour, off again — and it costs more and heats less. Most of the complaints that arrive in the first winter are about that, not about a fault.

We demonstrate the system in the home at handover, leave plain-English guidance, and follow up once it has been through a cold spell. Where a household is still struggling, we go back and set the controls with them.
